Simple 12V SMPS Circuit

Nowadays SMPS is taking place of transformer base power supply in every gadget. The main advantage of SMPS is it is very lightweight compared to the transformer. Here I am showing the schematic of 230V AC to 12V DC SMPS using MOSFET and two transistors. It is capable to supply up to 2A output current. Components count of this circuit is very low. So the costing for making this circuit is also very low and it is approx Rs.30 for each.

Simple 12V SMPS Circuit

This is a very small and simple circuit. The output is completely isolated from the input. Keep attention to the transformer winding.

    Resistance:
  • R1 = 100K 10% 0.25W
  • R2 = 1K 10% 0.25W
  • R3, R8 = 1M 10% 0.25W
  • R4 = 470E 10% 0.25W
  • R5 = 1E 10% 0.25W
  • R6 = 220E 10% 0.25W
  • R7 = 150E 10% 0.25W

  • Diode:
  • D1, D2, D3, D4 = 1N4007
  • D5 = BA157
  • D6 = 1N4148
  • D7 = BY399
  • Z1 = 11V Zener

  • Capacitor:
  • C1 = 2.2nF/1KV
  • C2 = 1nF/50V
  • C3 = 10nF/50V
  • C4 = 10MF/50V
  • C5 = 470MF/63V
  • C6 = 6.8MF/400V

  • Transistor and Mosfet:
  • Q1 = BC557 Transistor
  • Q2 = BC547 Transistor
  • Q3 = 6N80 MOSFET
  • IC1 = PC817 Optocoupler

  • Ferrite Core = 20x20x5
